Before the worlds merged, the universe had five dieties each with their own role and significance within the grand order of things. After the worlds united, a sixth god ascended, whose role and significance wasn't known or understood, making so that what had been in perfect balance was no longer quite so balanced.
The dieties of the world were:
The lion-headed god of light, order, and a stable social structure. A god of healing whose followers protects the law, those weaker than themselves, and are adept healers and leaders. The god of Light was rather obscure before the merging, but with the introduction of Humanity and the other species from the old world, he has rapidly ascended to becoming the dominant god of the universe.
The black cat-goddess of darkness, thieves and the ego. A god whose philosophy mainly surrounds the progression of the self and the strive for power. Another god that was obscure prior to the appearance of the old world, the ascension of the goddess of darkness greatly mirrors that of the god of light.
The owl-headed goddess of knowledge, learning and elementalism is another deity greatly boosted in power and significance with the introducion of the new world. A patron of scientific, cultural and magical knowledge, the goddess of elementalism is the primary god of old-world mages, scholars, inventors, engineers and artificers. The god had no real power what so ever prior to the fusion between the worlds, and it is largely the newly introduced species that have been behind her surge to greatness.
The deer-bodied goddess of the hunt, and the patron god of the M'ella, is among the gods that has had her position as a primary deity for the longest. Her purpouse is as the keeper of the balance of life and death, and she is both the goddess of the hunter and the hunted. Followers of the godess are commonly known as druids, and are tasked with ensuring the perseverence of the balance of life and death. Their task is to ensure that no species is exterminated or grows too much, and for this they are gifted with power to both heal and harm. Druids are able to manipulate the natural life force of things, and can thusly manipulate living wood, and it is through that which the M'ella have procured their living places for most of their history.
The jackal-headed god of death, and the keeper of the dead, is the other side of the M'ella worship. He is the god tasked with guiding the souls of the dead into afterlife, as well as in keeping them there.
He is the god of finality. It is his task to ensure that in the end, all things must die.
His followers are the seekers, and they are tasked with the hunting and destruction of the undying and reanimated. After the fusion of the worlds, and the introduction of Vampirism into the new world, the seekers have been tasked with ensuring that the Vampires, too, know the cold touch of death.
The sixth god, that ascended after the worlds fused, is the god of Chaos, Jester. A mysterious enigma in his own right, no one has managed to track down the origins of this entity, "he" or rather it seems to have always existed within the old world. What he was before becoming a god of the new world is still undefined. The mere existance of Jester has so far been a somewhat debalancing force to the gods', but he has come in as a suitable counterweight to the ordered god of elementalism, knowing and learning.
One thing to note about the gods, and their link to magic, is that the more people bind themselves to a god, the more powerful he or she becomes, the entire relationship between mortal and deity taking a symbiotic nature.
